In a moribund, decaying society such as ours, gender-related issues are sidestepped and even forsaken. But it’s precisely this that makes reiterating these issues possible all the time, so long as despair does not take over.
Among the drawbacks facing gender-related debate is its binary nature. There is a conflict between two extreme dichotomies: the first promotes women to become foes and opponents for men, while the second relegates women to the status of the subordinate who constantly look to men for safety in a society that only comprehends the language of power.
All appeals for women empowerment have failed to alleviate the social pressures chaining and besieging Egyptian women. Meanwhile, social conflicts are being sparked by those who insist on justifying distorted social traditions by religious norms. Thus, norms are constantly rebranded, as meekness is euphemistically described as shyness, surrendering to injustice is described as “tolerance,” and relinquishing one’s rights is described as favorable. This thesis manifests some of the violations facing women along a steep road.
