The Sadistic Rule of Law

    Law in Egypt may be invisible but what can be seen and experienced are its violations on a daily basis and around the clock. With your very first step on public roads, you encounter violations of the traffic laws that turn traffic into a veritable nightmare. Meanwhile, taxis and other transportation vehicles witness heated arguments between drivers and passengers about the fees prescribed by law and written on the front of each vehicle. As soon as you enter the office of a certain governmental institution in order to get things done, you might easily be delayed while waiting for the employees to finish their breakfast. 
In Egypt, legislations do not follow the scheme of public safety ascribed to them, limiting the role of the state to the implementation of the decisions of an independent judiciary, based upon the legislation of elected parliaments. On the contrary, bills are often passed under the influence of the executive power and amidst the marginalization of the members of the parliament. Some laws are passed by presidential decrees with the complete absence of the legislature and other exceptional legislations exist even though they have no justifications whatsoever. But perhaps the most dangerous flaw lies in the excessive abundance of laws.
