    A new genre of music has grown more popular in Egypt recently and it is known as “Aghani al-Mahraganat” or “festival” music. These songs mix between techno music and rap in a folkloric Egyptian style that is characterized by fast tempo. Some consider this kind of music a popular art while others refuse to classify it as art, mock it, and believe it’s silly and jeopardizes the Egyptian musical taste. Despite their critique, though, “festival” music enjoys a considerable popular base particularly among youth.
