A driver who works with the Syrian Company for the Storage and Distribution of Petroleum Products appeared on Sama TV, a private Syrian TV station with close links to the Syrian government, in last January. He claimed that those responsible with filling tanks with gasoline explicitly and shamelessly ask for bribes in order to fill the tanks with the designated amount of gasoline. He also says that they do not care for the implications of public bribes. As a result, they sell gasoline to the petroleum stations for greater prices than the officially-set price of gasoline. Thanks to the climate of war that has been taking place in the country over the last few years, they have become merchants who benefit from the corruption of the ruling power that has also corrupted and destroyed everything around it. They constitute a chain in the long, tight-knit cycle of corruption.
