Islam and the French Duality

    One of the foundational arguments of this dominant western thesis about Islam is that it remains shackled by its past. Thus, it’s different from other religions that achieved significant reforms in the theological field, creating a balance between the spiritual and the material. This analysis, however, is too general and fails to do justice to the profound progress undertaken by Muslim states. Many Muslim religious leaders and activists are worthy of admiration for their modern, progressive and courageous interpretations of traditional Islamic texts to adapt them to current political realities. They realize that religion is born as a reaction to the ills and challenges of its own era and thus should be faithful to the principles of dynamic continuity, integration and openness.
