Street artist Murad Subay launched the first graffiti campaign in Yemen in mid-2012 when war could still be felt in the streets of Sana’a, which was divided into several military outposts. The campaign aimed at painting the walls in the flashpoint neighborhoods and in the city centre. The initial images were shocking s soldiers and armed militiamen joined the youth in painting the walls. This even resulted in slowing down traffic as families stopped their cars to enjoy the beautiful colors and children exuberantly looked through the windows of the cars with a joy rarely seen in the previous year.
