“We stunned the world” has been a mantra almost ceaselessly propagated in Egyptian media ever since the January 25 Revolution succeeded in toppling Hosni Mubarak. The same phrase has been repeated after the downfall of Mubarak’s successor Mohammed Morsi in what was dubbed, by the very media, the June 30th Revolution. Even the walls of the Cairo International Airport’s arrivals terminal showcase a mural that includes Barack Obama’s remarks following the triumph of the Egyptian Revolution: “We must educate our children to become like young Egyptian people.”
