Distorting the facts of a certain era in history is by no means new, but attempts at distorting the reality that we continue to live is an insult to human intelligence. Chutzpah was in full display when intellectuals loyal to the Saudi regime showered the media and the columns of the newspapers with obituaries dedicated to King Abdullah shortly after his death. While they are entitled to love and praise whoever they want, they do not have the right to claim that an entire society would have been immersed in darkness,backwardness and lust for blood had it not been ruled by this enlightened leadership. Local, regional and international newspapers raced to list the accomplishments of the late king, but this time around they were not restricted to tangible achievements such as building and construction. They even included “psychological” achievements on the lofty level of people’s consciousness, intellect and their very existence. Following is a tiny chunk of the late king’s immortal “achievements” that were narrated by some people and ignored by couch intellectuals.
